Guidance & Counselling
‘Every second we live is a new and unique moment of the universe, a moment that never was before and will never be again. And what do we teach our children at school? We teach them that two and two make four and that Paris is the capital of France. We should say to each of them “Do you know what you are? You are a marvel. You are unique. In the millions of years that have passed, there has never been another child like you”’
Counselling  The guidance counsellor offers a respectful and confidential environment for the student to raise personal, educational and career issues.
Assessment
Aptitude, ability interest and other assessment tools are used to assist the student in the decision making process.
Advocacy
The guidance counsellor has an advocacy role on behalf of students with outside agencies, employers, third level institutions and other training agencies.
Information Management
Careers, further and higher education and other information of interest to students are housed in the school’s careers library.
Consultation
The guidance counsellor consults with teachers, parents, learning support and management in the planning of the guidance service in the school.
Group Guidance
The guidance counsellor meets with students during key transition years to cover self-management, study skills, and further and higher education and training and to prepare students for entry to employment.
